A move in Pasadena comes with logistics most generic checklists never mention. Between getting a Certificate of Insurance approved for a downtown high-rise, timing a load around refinery shift change on TX-225, and clearing move-in paperwork with a Pearland HOA, there is a lot to track. We run these moves out of our yard on Spencer Highway every week, so here is the realistic, week-by-week timeline our own crews walk customers through, with the southeast Houston details baked in.
4 to 6 Weeks Before Your Move
Lock Your Date and Get a Written Quote
The southeast Houston metro turns over hard every summer, and good crews fill up fast from May into September. Reach out at least six weeks ahead during peak season. We send a flat written rate so there are no surprises on move day. Just give us your two ZIP codes and your date, and tell us if there are stairs, a high-rise, or a refinery-corridor address so Roberto can map the access.
Check Your Lease, HOA, or Building Rules Early
This is where Pasadena-area moves get specific. What you need to square away depends on where you are landing:
- Downtown high-rise or Clear Lake mid-rise: The building almost certainly requires a Certificate of Insurance naming the property as additional insured, plus a reserved freight elevator booked in advance.
- Pearland or Friendswood HOA subdivision: Many of the newer TX-288 communities have move-in hour rules, gate codes, and a notice requirement before a truck can roll in.
- Refinery-corridor address near TX-225: Tight industrial streets and shift traffic mean we plan truck staging and timing around the plants and the Port.

2 to 3 Weeks Before Your Move
Pasadena-Area Utility Transfer Checklist
Texas runs a deregulated electricity market, so you choose your own power provider, but everything else is set by where you live. Here is how it breaks down for the Pasadena and southeast Houston area:
| Utility | Provider | Lead Time | How to Set Up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electricity | Your choice of retail provider (CenterPoint delivers) | 3–5 days | powertochoose.org to compare plans |
| Water/Sewer | City of Pasadena (or your city utility) | 3–5 days | pasadenatx.gov |
| Natural Gas | CenterPoint Energy | 5 business days | centerpointenergy.com |
| Internet/TV | Xfinity (Comcast) / AT&T Fiber | 7–10 days | Check coverage at the new address first |
| Trash/Recycling | City service (set up with water billing) | With your water account | Through your city utility office |
Sort Your Toll Tag
If you will be driving Beltway 8 (the Sam Houston Tollway), the Hardy, or the Westpark, get a TxTag or EZ TAG before move day. The toll roads around Houston are cashless, so without a tag you get billed by plate at the higher rate. Order online and link your plate and new address as soon as you have them.
Forward Your Mail
Submit a change of address through USPS at least 10 days before your move. The online form charges a small identity-verification fee, around $1.10, or you can do it free in person at any post office.
1 Week Before Your Move
Final Week Checklist
- Confirm your date, arrival window, and any special instructions with our crew
- Share elevator reservations, gate codes, COIs, and parking restrictions with us
- Pack a move-day essentials box (see below)
- Sort truck staging for tight refinery-corridor streets or a high-rise loading dock
- Give neighbors a heads-up if the truck will block a shared drive in an older subdivision
Gulf Coast Essentials Box
- Plenty of cold water, electrolytes, and snacks for the crew, since a Pasadena summer move means heat in the 90s
- A box fan or two and a phone charger with a portable battery
- Your toll tag, if you will be driving the tollway between the old and new place
- Rain ponchos and a few extra trash bags if you are moving during hurricane season, in case an afternoon storm rolls through
- Important documents, medications, and valuables to keep with you, never on the truck
After You Move
Post-Move Administrative Tasks
| Task | Deadline | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Update driver’s license address | 30 days | Texas DPS, dps.texas.gov | New residents: 90 days to get a TX license |
| Update vehicle registration | With your county | Harris County (or Brazoria for Pearland) | Texas vehicles need a current inspection on file |
| Register to vote | 30 days before an election | votetexas.gov | Update if you changed your address |
| Update insurance policies | ASAP | Your provider | Auto plus renters or homeowners, and check flood coverage |
| Update bank/financial addresses | ASAP | Online banking | Checks, statements, tax documents |
One Gulf Coast item people skip: if your new home is in a flood-prone part of Pasadena, Deer Park, or Friendswood, ask your insurer about a separate flood policy. Standard homeowners coverage does not include flooding, and after Harvey that is a gap you do not want.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide a Certificate of Insurance for high-rise buildings?
Yes. We are a licensed and insured Texas mover and we issue COIs for downtown Houston lofts and Clear Lake high-rises regularly. Send us the building’s exact wording 3 to 5 business days before the move and we will get it on file with the property manager.
Can you move on the weekend or around a refinery shift?
Yes. We schedule around shift work and Port traffic on the TX-225 corridor all the time, including early starts and weekends. Tell us the address and timing and Roberto will plan the truck staging so the carry stays short.
Are you a moving company or a broker?
We are a moving company. First Priority Movers uses our own trucks and our own W-2 crew on every job. We never subcontract or hand off your move, and your information is never shared or sold.
Do you offer service in Spanish?
Yes. Roberto and our crew are bilingual in English and Spanish, so you can plan your whole move in either language.
